Ljubica Todorovic
Ljubica Todorovic
BFA Drawing
Biography
Once upon a time, there was a girl who lived on an acreage just North East of Calgary, Alberta with her parents, rabbits, a yellow school bus and several barn cats. She was an only child raised on the nourishing contradictions of Serbian culture. After a long and tedious journey through art school (BFA Drawing 2002-2006) and dead-end retail jobs, she decided to open up her very own studio, gallery and artist supplies shop (May 2008-Present). That delightfully eclectic place – aptly named Studio Todorovic – is located in the very heart of Downtown Calgary within the magical Art Central building. There, Ljubica creates the most wondrous abstract and representational oil paintings that your eyes will ever set sight on. Is this the end, or only the beginning? I like to think that a story such as this comes full circle every so often.
Artist Statement
My work draws inspiration from the energies of people, animals and places around me. The act of painting is treated as a drawing process involving lines which must dance across the canvas or sit deathly still depending on the subject of the work. Familiar forms may arise in the work but are not the main focus of my practice; subjects may include memories of childhood, animals I grew up with or the landscapes I see on a daily basis. Memories can be difficult to paint when time has elapsed; therefore, the painting becomes severely abstracted down to the basic elements of form and color when this subject matter arises. The end result I desire in all of my work – representational or not – is likened to the ghost of a forgotten dream, struggling to be remembered.

Ljubica is open to the suggestion of commission-based work.
Commission Guidelines
1. Contract – Commissioner will read and understand “Commission Policy” outlining, in detail, the terms of the contracted work.
2. Quote & Payment - Prices are quoted a fixed rate during consultation. Ljubica requires a downpayment of 50% (non-refundable ) before work begins. Upon payment, one page of thumbnail sketches and one color study will be prepared to ensure customer satisfaction. Painting will be executed once customer gives the green light. Commissioner will be emailed low-resolution images of the piece during the painting process to ensure satisfaction.
3. Delivery of work – Work is to be picked-up by commissioner at Studio Todorovic. If you live outside of Calgary, you must pay shipping and handling charges to have the work mailed to you. Deliveries within Calgary are free of charge. We are not responsible for damages incurred on the artwork after it has left the Studio. Ljubica will repair (but not replace) the painting free of charge if something happens.
4. Cancellation of project- If the commissioner ultimately decides they do not want the piece, Ljubica has the right to keep the 50% non-refundable downpayment as security for time spent preparing and creating the artwork. The other 50% essentially vaporizes into thin air. Ljubica has the right to sell the painting to whomever pays current market value for it. Commissioner does not retain any rights to the painting itself or images of the painting.
5. Other- Artist & Commissioner have the right to post images of the final painting online (please link to Ljubica when doing so). Commissioner is purchasing the object (painting), not the image of the work.
